Power Supplier Observing Silver Anniversary

New Richmond’s power supplier is kicking off a celebration of its 25th anniversary in 2005 by making presentations in all of the joint action agency’s member communities.

Director of Planning Marty Dreischmeier of Wisconsin Public Power Inc. was in New Richmond to present the Utility Commission with a framed poster to commemorate the Sun Prairie-based power supplier’s silver anniversary. The poster features a signature photo from each of WPPI’s 40 member communities – from Algoma to Whitehall.

“Today, 40 municipal electric utilities are linked through shared ownership of WPPI,” Dreischmeier said. “Each maintains local control, yet all benefit from the strength of joint action.”

New Richmond was a founding member of WPPI when the power company was formed in 1980. “You have made the smart choices necessary to provide your customers with reliable, safe and economic energy, now and in the future,” Dreischmeier told the commission.

The fifth-largest electric utility in the state, WPPI and its member-owners provide power to more than 154,000 customers throughout Wisconsin. WPPI will formally celebrate its anniversary at its annual meeting in September at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center in Madison.
