Notice of Rate Increase for Sewer Customers of the New Richmond Municipal Sewer Utility

This is to give you notice that the New Richmond Municipal Sewer Utility will increase its sewer rates starting April 1, 2012. At its January 10th meeting, the Utilities Commission approved increasing both the monthly meter charge and the user fee for all classes of users. The user fee increased from $5.33 to $5.95 per 1,000 gallons.

The monthly fixed rate meter charge varies depending on the meter size. For a typical 5/8” residential meter, the monthly meter charge will increase from $6.11 to $ 6.82. The increase will equate to an increase of $2.59 per month for an average residential user. The last rate increase occurred on April 1, 2005. The rate increase is necessary due to increased maintenance and operation costs for (1) the treatment plant to meet state requirements (2) the collection system and upgrading lift stations, (3) bio-solids treatment and disposal, (4) plant improvements, and (5) to reduce the existing deficiency in present rates. The increase is also necessary to continue meeting its annual debt service requirement and to maintain the utility’s A1 bond rating.
